Bonnie June Canter, 85, of Athens passed away on November 13, 2018. She was born in Lathrop, Ohio, on June 12, 1933, to Robert and Alice (Brawley) Thompson.

Bonnie married Ralph Canter in 1952 in Pennsville, Ohio, and they resided in Morgan County for over 50 years. She spent early adulthood as a homemaker, raising her two sons, caring for her mother-in-law, and helping her neighbors. Later, she worked as a cook at Homer Union Elementary School for 25 years. In retirement, she and Ralph worked at Yellowstone National Park from 2002 to 2011, where she was a cook for the staff at Old Faithful General Store. She was an active member of Fairview Church for over 60 years and taught the little children’s Sunday school class for a time.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years; two sisters: Mary Starkey George and Florence Braglin; and five brothers: Harold, James, Franklin, Robert, and Fred Thompson. She is survived by her sons: Chuck (Kathy) Canter of Athens and Ed (Bissy) Canter of Pickerington; three grandchildren: Tricia (Jeremy) Purcell, Charles (Nancy) Canter, and Matthew (Ashley) Canter; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters: Wanda (Bill) Green-Wilson of Nelsonville, Mable Whitmore of Logan, and Ginger Hamilton of New Lexington; and one brother, Walter (Patty) Thompson of Corning.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bishopville Church of Christ, 6555 S. State Route 78, Glouster, Ohio 45732.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Church 9825 W. Mountville Rd., Glouster, Ohio 45732 with Rev. Mike Wells and Rev. Arnold Van Horn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
