Richard L. Mingus

Richard Lee Mingus, 69 of Jacksonville passed away Thursday at the Ohio Health O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens.  Born April 4, 1949 in Athens County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mary Bendervich Mingus.  He retired from CSX Railroad and was a Vietnam Army Veteran.  He was a member of the Jacksonville V.F.W., and the Jacksonville Eagles where he enjoyed the Bob and Rich hour every morning.  Rich also enjoyed gardening and mowing.  

He is survived by his wife, Donna Shifflet Mingus of Jacksonville; a daughter, Hope (Tony) Varner of Glouster; two grandchildren, Noah and Olivia; two brothers, Franklin Mingus and William (Judy) Mingus, both of Glouster; a sister, Virginia (Greg) Irwin of Sunbury; and special friends, Bob Sayre and Jerry Brown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a special friend, Bob Six.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday September 25, 2018 at the Bishopville Church of Christ with John Wright officiating.  Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster where there will be a military graveside service conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit and the United States Army.  Friends may call at the church on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.  Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215 or the Chix 4 A Cure, 8314 State Route 685, Glouster, Ohio 45732.  Arrangements are by the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.  A comforting message may be sent to the family at
