Jack Victor Oakley, 87 of Nelsonville passed away Wednesday April 11, 2018 at the Pickering House, Lancaster.  He was born in Buchtel on July 30, 1930 to the late R. Victor Oakley and Clancy V. Oakley (nee Dougherty), and was the nephew of the late Oral Daugherty, of Nelsonville.  

He graduated from Nelsonville High School with the class of 1948; earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio University, and a Juris Doctor Degree from Capital University Law School.  Although retired from the practice of law, he was the President and CEO of Drydock Coal Company at the time of his death.  During an active lifetime, he owned and operated the Oakley Insurance Agency and was on the Board of the People’s Bank.  He also served on the Athens County Port Authority, the Nelsonville Board of Trade, and the Parade Committee of the Parade of the Hills.  He was past Exalted Ruler of the Nelsonville Elks, and a 32nd degree Mason.  Jack was an avid horseman, golfer, bridge player, tennis player, and traveler.  

He is survived by his wife, Saranne, and son Mark of Buchtel; son Gregg and his wife Cathy, of Buchtel; son Timothy and his wife Melissa of Cincinnati; son John and his wife Mary, of Buchtel; grandchildren, Cory Oakley, Erin Oakley, Victoria Oakley, Samuel Oakley, Ashley Balzer (Lance), and MacKenzie Oakley; great grandchildren, Easton, Kristian, Kayla, Mylee, Payden, Lincoln and Zoe; a great-great grandchild, Emsley; and a longtime family friend, Joe Martinez.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Meagan Lynn Toothman.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday April 16, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, 69 East Washington St., Nelsonville, Ohio 45764 with Rev. Peter Gailbraith officiating.  Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.  Friends may call at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.  Contributions can be made to the Meagan Toothman Foundation, 2052 Knights Bridge Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45244.  Arrangements are by the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.  A comforting message may be sent to the family at www.morrisonfc.com.
