Norman S. Lowery

Norman S. Lowery, 73, of Glouster passed away Thursday December 28, 2017 at his residence.  He was born September 24, 1944 in Athens.  He was the son late Norman S. Sr., and Bernice Barnes Lowery.  He retired from Ohio University as the Associate Director of Facilities Management.  He also retired from the United States Army.  During that time he served two tours in Vietnam, worked as a Military Policeman, an Army Recruiter in Athens and worked at the Pentagon.  He was a member of the Bishopville Church of Christ, Glouster Masonic Lodge, the Columbus Aladdin Shrine, the Athens County Shrine, Scottish Rite, life member of the Jacksonville VFW, life member of the Glouster American Legion, life member of the Vietnam Vets of America, former member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, former member of the Sons of Veterans Reserve  Battery I, 1st Ohio Light Artillery and the 63rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Norman enjoyed mowing grass, riding his great-grandson on his tractor, camping at the Muskingum River, and spending time with family and friends.    

He is survived by his wife Emily (Brown) Lowery of Glouster; two daughters Jennifer Dunlevy of Glouster and Shelly (Karl) Rowan of Chapel Hill, NC; three grandchildren, Chuck Dunlevy Jr., Brian and Sara Rowan, all of Glouster; a great-grandson, Charles T. Dunlevy; one brother Martin Wayne (Bonnie) Lowery of Jacksonville; one sister Sally Hines of Belpre; special former son-in-law Chuck Dunlevy Sr.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Allen “Oop” Lowery.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday January 3, 2018 at the Bishopville Church of Christ with John Wright officiating.  Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster, where there will be a military graveside service conducted by the United States Army Color Guard.  Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 2:00pm – 8:00pm where there will be a Masonic Service at 7:30pm. Contributions can be made to the Bishopville Church of Christ, 6555 S. St. Rt. 78, Glouster, OH 45732.
