Chuck Spencer

Charles “Chuck” Spencer passed away at his home on Thursday, October 19, 2017 surrounded by his family.  Chuck was born in Canton, Ohio May 12, 1942 to William “Baldy” and Helen Richards Spencer.  After graduating from Glouster High School in 1960, Chuck and his cousin Harold Shonborn joined the United States Marine Corps on the buddy plan.  In 1964, he met and married the love of his life, Linda Baker.    Chuck left the military in 1965.  He and Linda moved to Texas shortly thereafter, eventually making their home in Kaufman, where they raised their two daughters, Tamara and Deborah.  In the mid-1980’s Chuck retired from Plastics Manufacturing Company in Dallas and began a second career in law enforcement.  Always a hard worker, Chuck balanced family, full-time employment, and farming a 2500-tree peach orchard for many years.  In 2002, following Linda’s death, Chuck retired from the City of Garland Police Department and returned to Ohio with his daughters and grandchildren.  

Chuck is survived by both daughters, Tamara (Michael) Ward and Deborah (Christopher) Withem; six grandchildren, Felisha Davis, Kristal (Burnell) Moulton, Tiffany Miller, Thuren “Bubba” Davis, Cody Jones and Olivia Withem; two great-grandsons, Waylon Davis and Clay Flory; siblings, Mary Holman, Dean (DeeLee) Spencer, Helen “Sis” Hooper, Billie Jean Cavey, Cheryl Lax, and Dale (Mary) Spencer; sister-in-law, Wanda (Rusty) Reed; a dear friend and companion, Margaret Lowery; and many friends and family.

He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife Linda; Linda’s parents, Marvin Baker and Myrlene Cunningham; several brothers-in-law; his cousin, Harold; and many others.

Chuck was a big supporter of local youth, known simply as “PawPaw” to many.  An avid supporter of Trimble Tomcats sports programs, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Athletic Complex Improvement Fund/Football Stadium, c/o Sandy Gyure, PO Box 187 Glouster, Ohio 45732.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday October 25, 2017 at the Bishopville Church of Christ with Rocky Exline and Michael Ward officiating.  Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
