Samuel Joseph Jones II, of Chauncey, passed away at his home on Monday, October 23, 2023. The son of Sam and Ellen Pappas Jones of Glouster, he was born November 13, 1960 at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Nelsonville. He graduated in 1979 from Trimble Local Schools, where he excelled in football and baseball, earning many awards including Southeastern Ohio All-League in football, and selection as a catcher in the North-South Ohio Championship. Sam was also a two-time Golden Gloves Champion and was twice a Bando National Kickboxing champion.  Sam loved music, art, sports, and his friends and family. He worked as a carpenter, and traveled the country finishing wood flooring, as well as playing in a traveling rock band as a young man. Sammy was a tremendously creative person with a unique perspective, and one who will be missed so much by his family and friends.
Sam is survived by his parents, his children Jeremy Jones and Paula (Nemo) Mayle, grandsons Corbin and Dane, sister Kim (Lori) Jones, nephews and nieces Courtney (Jim) Wilburn, Seth (Kelsey) Jones, Mackenzie (Wayne) Jones, and many beloved great-nephews and -nieces; a special uncle and aunt Dr. Tom (Kay) Pappas. He is also survived by his companion of many years Gina Llewellyn, her children and grandchildren. He was also fortunate enough to have many other wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.
Sam is preceded in death by his brother, Mike; by his grandparents Juanita and Ralph Shaw, Evangelo and Rose Pappas, and Eddie and Waunita Jones; by his aunt Mary (Nick) Cardaras, and by his precious great-grandparents, great-aunts and uncles; and many lovely cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Bishopville Church of Christ. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster, Ohio.
Friends may also call from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church on Friday, October 27, 2023, or an hour before the funeral on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trimble Local Textbook and Supplies Foundation in care of Sandy Gyure, P.O. Box 187, Glouster, Ohio 45732.
