Danny W. Simons, 83 of Amesville passed away Saturday September 23, 2023 at Kimes Convalescent Center, Athens. Born June 22, 1940 in Athens County, he was the son of the late Otto A. and Freda M. Shepard Simons. Danny was a Bern Township Trustee. He formerly worked for the Child Support Enforcement Agency in multiple counties and Diagnostic Hybrid in Athens. He graduated from J.T. High School in 1958 and attended Ohio University from 1958-1962. He was a member, Deacon and Youth Group Leader at the Hooper Ridge Church of Christ, a member and Past Master at the Amesville Masonic Lodge F&AM #278, a 4H advisor for over 25 years, a member of the Athens County Agriculture Society, Athens County Fair Board, and the Athens County Mounted Posse. He was a volunteer fireman for the Ames-Bern Amesville Fire Department. He is survived by two daughters, Lori (Alan) Shumaker of Logan and Jeryl Simons of Columbus; a son, Scott (Becky) Simons of Amesville; three grandchildren, Miranda (Jeremy) Jones of Pickerington, Jessi Simons of Amesville, and Bayleigh Shumaker of Douglasville, GA; a great grandson, Izak Jones; a brother, Greg (Carol) Simons of Greens Run; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon R. Linscott Simons, who passed away in 1994.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday September 29, 2023 at the Hooper Ridge Church of Christ with Greg Penrod officiating. Interment will be in the Hooper Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a dinner at the Hooper Ridge Church immediately following the burial. All are welcome to attend. Contributions can be made to the Hooper Ridge Church of Christ, 16295 Hooper Ridge Rd.
