Charles M. “Butch” Smathers, 64 of Trimble, passed away Friday December 4, 2020 at his residence. He was born October 14, 1956 in Athens County. He enjoyed, hunting, fishing, and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy McLean Smathers of Trimble; his mother, Maxine Hogue Smathers of Trimble; brothers, David Smathers of Trimble, Todd Smathers of Trimble, Jack (Amy) Smathers of Jacksonville and Terry Smathers of Trimble; a sister, Brenda King of Trimble; an uncle Victor (Leona) Smathers of Circleville; his mother-in-law, Ann McLean of Nelsonville; sisters-in-law, Teresa (John) Young of Jacksonville and Debbie (Ted) Davis of Painesville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Smathers; three nephews, Corey, David, and Charlie Smathers; and two sisters-in-law, Alice Smathers and Beth Bartlett.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday December 10, 2020 at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville with John Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Contributions can be made to Morrison Funeral Chapel, 6525 S. State Route 78, Glouster, Ohio 45732 to assist with funeral expenses. To honor Butch, the family asks that those who attend the services wear a flannel shirt. Facial coverings and social distancing are required while attending the services.
