Crystal A. Bolyard Coppinger
Gastonia,North Carolina

Crystal A. Bolyard Coppinger, 58 of Gastonia, NC passed away Tuesday November 19, 2019 at the Novant Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC.  She was born July 18, 1961 in Zanesville to the late John Robert and Mary Sue Brown Bolyard.
Crystal worked for the Business Resource Center in Charlotte, NC for nearly six years, supporting firm attorneys and clients.  Because of her role, many in the firm recognized Crystal for her excellent work and responsiveness, even if they had never met her in person.    Friends said she loved to read, particularly books about history and biographies-a poster on her wall at home declared “I cannot live without books.”  She also enjoyed genealogy and travel, especially to visit her grandchildren.  She was the mother of three sons.

Originally from Ohio, Crystal spent more than 10 years in the military.  She joined the U.S. Navy in 1978 and performed paralegal and court reporting duties under the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps.  She retired from the military in 1991.  She also worked for three years for Akin Gump as a paralegal in San Antonio, TX.  From 2001 to 2013, she worked as a legal secretary for Gresham Savage Nolan & Tilden in San Bernardino, California.  From there, Crystal relocated to North Carolina, where she applied to McGuireWoods-describing herself as “dependable, honest, and professional”-and she was hired in 2013 as a business resources specialist.  A true mentor to others, she was promoted to senior business resources specialist in 2017, and in October 2019 she became BRC supervisor.  In March 2019, Crystal received a McGuireWoods Spot Award, recognizing exemplary performance in on or more of the firm’s core values.  In the nomination letter, she was commended for “Excellence: doing things extraordinarily well; not an act but a habit, not skill, but attitude; synonymous with the McGuireWoods Way.”

Crystal will be greatly missed.
